American tenor and Davian Raggio was last seen as Alfred in Music On Site, Inc.’s production of
Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus. In his 2023/2024 season, Mr. Raggio will be making his Zarzuela debut, performing Javier Moreno in Federico Torroba’s Luisa Fernanda, as well as playing Winston in the
collegiate premiere of David Hanlon’s Listen, Wilhelmina! with Baylor Opera Theater. In the summer of 2024, he will be returning as a Resident Young Artist for the Ohio Light Opera's 45th repertory season, debuting the role of Marco in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers and Big Jule in Guys and Dolls. Mr. Raggio was a resident artist with the Ohio Light Opera in the summer of 2023, performing the roles of Morpheus (Orpheus in the Underworld), Mr.Tackaberry (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying), Page (Camelot), and was a featured tap dancer in their premier of No, No, Nanette! Previous roles include Il Contino Belfiore (La finta giardiniera) with Opera Seme, Le Remendado (Carmen) with Music On Site, inc., Fabrizio (The Light in the Piazza) with Waco Civic Theater, Bellerose in Monsieur et Madame Denis (First prize winner in the National Opera Association’s Production Competition), The Duke of Dunstable (Patience), Mr. Splinters in The Tender Land (Third prize winner for The American Prize in Opera Performance – college/ university division), Gherardo (Gianni Schicchi), Kodaly (She Loves Me), Jack (Into the Woods), and Erster Geharnischter in Die Zauberflöte (Semi-finalist for The American Prize in Opera Performance – professional division). Mr. Raggio was also a Young Artist with the Baylor International Choral Conducting Masterclass and Symposium in 2021.
The young tenor has been gaining experience on the concert stage and in masterclasses, most recently seen as a soloist in the annual Baylor Halloween Organ Concert in both 2023 and 2022. He performed as a soloist in the Norm Lewis Masterclass hosted by the Waco Symphony and was also seen as a soloist in the Luis Orozco Masterclass as a part of the 2023 Baylor School of Music Lyceum Series. Mr. Raggio’s Chorus experience includes Handel’s Messiah with Vox Seraphim, McGough’s Let us Weep with First Presbyterian Church of Waco, Fourth of July POP’s Concert with the Ohio Light Opera, and three seasons in the annual ABC’s A Baylor Christmas.
New to the competition circuit, Mr. Raggio most recently competed as a finalist in the Texoma NATS Student Auditions, taking fourth prize among the fourth and fifth-year classical TBB division. He was named a winner of the second annual Baylor University Aria Competition in 2023, where he was awarded the opportunity to perform Mozart’s “Frisch zum Kampfe!” with the Baylor Symphony Orchestra. In 2022, Mr. Raggio and his team took second prize in the Lone Star Songs' first annual Central Texas Song Slam competition, premiering “Dulce et Decorum Est” by composer Breck McGough.
Davian is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance at The Baylor University School of Music under the tutelage of Mark Diamond.
